WEST HAMPSTEAD LIBRARY
West Hampstead Library is a fantastic resource, with fully accessible sections for adults (upstairs) and children (downstairs). It used by approximately xx people every week – mostly local residents but also people who work in West Hampstead or who are passing through (including an increasing number of tourists!).
Following the closure of Camden's Housing Office, the library is now the only place in West Hampstead where Camden Council staff have any face-to-face interaction with the public. In other words, it is not only a library, but a vital source of information and contact.
That said, its core purpose is to offer books for lending and reference, and also talking books, music on CD, films on DVD, newspapers and magazines, free wi-fi, and facilities for printing and photocopying. You can search the online catalogue here.
You willl also find a wealth of information on local services, plus noticeboards galore carrying news of what's on in the area. FoWHL has its own noticeboard by the lift.
Here's a quick breakdown on what is on offer:
• Daily: Daily Telegraph/Financial Times/Guardian/Independent/Daily Mirror /The Times)
• Weekly: Camden New Journal/Ham&High/
Irish Post/Jewish Chronicle/ NME/Loot/
New Statesman/TES/Time Out/Voice
• Fortnightly: Computer Active/Private Eye
Please note that owing to the current round of cutbacks this list of periodicals is likely to be trimmed.
Also, there may be added periodicals that have been donated by library regulars!
